Perseverance. Dedication. Courage.
Sara’s inner sense of curiosity and wonder took root when she started dismantling household items at a young age, and reassembling them subsequently, piece by piece, after learning how every component interacted accordingly. “My parents thought I was pretty annoying,” she laughs, alluding to her never-ending thirst for knowledge. Those formative, precocious moments fueled Sara’s adventure-seeking nature and deep motivation to better understand the bigger picture in every challenge. The direct result: an insatiable drive to experience the world and its myriad of mysteries through the eyes of others, no matter where they may live or what they may believe.
Everest Base Camp
For two months, Sara trained triathalon-style for up to four hours per day in New Mexico—including strenuous treks through as much as 8 feet of snow—to prepare herself for a 13-day test of physical and mental endurance to Mount Everest’s Base Camp (elevation 18,373 feet). Starting from Lukla, Nepal (9,350 feet), she willed herself forward in minus 10-degree snow flurries and battering winds. As if conquering Base Camp wasn’t enough, she also summited Kala Pattar, elevation 18,500 feet. When not ascending challenging peaks around the world, Sara mountain bikes, runs, hikes and swims, pushing herself into the top 2% of competitors for distance and speed in her swimming age group. “I’m somewhat awkward on land but I’m fast and agile in the water,” she says. “I swim for clarity.”
Rishikesh Silent Retreat
On two trips to India, Sara embarked on 10-day retreats of silence and meditation to reconnect to her self and refuel her inner sense of peace, which bodes well for her in the often intense and chaotic world of fintech startups, demanding client meetings and complex contract settlements. Soon after she was profiled in the December 2018 issue of Authority as a leader in the blockchain revolution: “I have lots of ideas, lots! To name one: silence. It’s cheap and easy and it can change your life. Try it. Even one minute a day of complete silence is worth it. Find a comfortable position, close your eyes, sit still, take a few breaths and see what happens. Might be hard at first but if there is one secret to my success silence it and I’d love for it to become a global phenomenon.”
Sara’s superpower is her ability to remain laser focused and inexplicably calm in the most intense negotiations and twists-and-turns of fintech launches, and the challenges that accompany her high-level regulatory work. Without drawing attention to herself, she confidently guides clients through the abundant obstacles and barriers in the U.S. regulatory landscape in order to help them meet their goals.
Inca Trail, Peru
Using her intuition and internal sense of direction as her compass, Sara conquered the multi-day-and-night journey across the 26-mile Inca Trail without porters. She strategically planned for everything she’d need for this transformative adventure across the historic Incan path to Machu Picchu, carrying on her back food, water and supplies for building shelter. But in typical Sara fashion, she also prepared herself for much more than the basics: She also readied herself for the great unknowns of trekking unguided. Sara’s Inca journey readied her for a later venture deep into the Brazilian Amazon rainforest where she elevated her understanding of nature in its most elemental form, and used her survival skills and instincts to gather food (including bugs) and water, build fires and swim among piranhas, and later pink dolphins at night.
