Bio
Sara is a lawyer-turned-entrepreneur tech executive and board member with more than 20 years of C-suite experience in helping to design, launch and grow financial services companies. Born in Madison, Wisconsin amid the world of academia, Sara’s innate yet ever-evolving curious nature led her to the analytical teachings of the Great Books at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. With a double major in philosophy and mathematics, and a juris doctor degree coupled with a master’s degree in business taxation from USC, Sara brings a unique methodology of analysis and perspective to her daily work to help clients operate at the most gratifying level possible. “Bringing philosophy and mathematics to the table isn’t something you get with every lawyer,” she says. “It allows me to see client challenges in different ways, and tackle those challenges differently.”
Her early work at several leading national law firms in the areas of complex real-estate finance transactions, corporate governance, capital markets and regulatory and securities compliance fueled her aspiration to better understand and later build blockchain-based financial companies, one of which she co-founded and grew to become an industry unicorn in two years. Beyond her curriculum vitae, it’s her grounded and focused demeanor and creative thinking that clients value most. “I tell my clients to take a big step back and think about what they enjoy doing,” she says. “Do more of that and less of the rest, and one day you’ll wake up and realize that the majority of what you spend your time on is fun, interesting and engaging.”
Intellectual inquisitiveness is key for Sara’s approach to complex problems and solutions. “If you aren’t actually curious or wondering or asking the next question, you’ll never get to innovation. This is the why,” she says. The what if is the mental flexibility to think about how things could be. And the how? “The creativity to connect the dots. In the legal profession and highly regulated industries this can be very challenging, but that’s what’s fun about my job.”
Sara’s super power is calmly and inventively leading businesses to strive for innovation, excellence and impact, operating at the highest level in every aspect of their business—and steering them to be bold enough to make the sometimes difficult changes to get there. “When we treat each other as responsible human beings who are fully capable of making the right decision, everybody wins,” she says. “It all comes down to the people, their beliefs, their ability to dedicate themselves, one by one, to making that change happen.”
